We know you may have some questions as you consider committing to this retreat weekend, here are some frequently asked questions that should cover most of your concerns.
What is a "Welcome" WEEKEND"?
"Welcome" is about you! It helps you
discover what's missing in your life.
Does your life feel overwhelming? Do you
sometimes feel like you're facing the craziness
alone? Do you feel that if you weren't so busy
you would be happier, healthier, more fulfilled?
A "Welcome" weekend is for you.
It is an incredible experience that will help you
make sense of life, help you develop lasting
friendships in the parish and fill you with
newfound energy and purpose.
Whether you want to connect with other people
in the parish, or improve your prayer life, or just
take a break from the craziness of life, you will
find what you are looking for- AND MORE.
"Welcome" is a fun and relaxing way to
experience Parish community - and the
home-made food is GREAT! No cooking or
cleaning up after.
Listen to the urging of the Holy Spirit, and
consider giving this gift of a "Welcome"
Weekend to yourself-- it's FREE!!
What Happens On A "Welcome" Weekend?
Most who have participated in a weekend
experience say that "you can't explain what
happens; you have to experience it." This is your
invitation to that "experience."
You are free to share as much or as little as you
desire. There is ample time for prayer, songs,
laughter and personal reflection.
Who May Participate?
"Welcome" is open to all parishioners of St. Michael's
and surrounding Parishes who have graduated from high
school or are at least 18 years old, as well as
those adults living in the area not registered at
any parish. No need to be Catholic.
You don't need to be an expert in theology or the
Bible in order to participate. The only
prerequisite is a desire for peace and joy in your
life! Come meet new friends.
Who Conducts The Weekend?
The Weekend is given by Parishioners. A Team
that has previously attended a "Welcome"
weekend works together in prayer and love to
provide you with this two day, one overnight, fun
experience.
What About This "Witnessing" Business?
The talks are given by Team members, NOT by
participants. You may share in conversation or
thoughts (as much or as little as you choose)
with a small group of participants at your table.
When And Where Do The Weekends Take
Place?
The weekend will take place at St. Michael's Parish
Hall. It begins on Saturday morning at 8 AM and
ends around 4 PM Sunday.
What About Meals?
Meals are made and served by previous
"Welcome" Teams. Regular breaks of coffee,
tea, snacks, etc. are offered throughout the weekend. If
you have any special dietary needs, we will try to
accommodate.
What Are The Accommodations?
Accommodations are at our Parish Hall -
Dividers are used to separate where we meet,
and sleep. During this weekend we try to work
on God's time, you can leave phones and watches at
home, or we will hold onto them for you. (Don't worry you
will be given a contact number who will keep a phone for
emergency purposes.)
Where Do People Sleep?
Sleeping arrangements are a bit unique. Some
cushioned cots and regular cots will be available,
but participants are encouraged to bring their own cots or air
beds, if desired. Sheets or sleeping bag, pillow,
face towel and toiletries are also needed. There
are shower facilities if desired.
Insomnia/Snoring, Will I Disturb Others?
Forget it! Not a problem! Remember, only one
night is included and to minimize any problems
we tend to retire late. CPAP Machines are
welcome.
Why An Overnighter??
You are asked to give 30 hours to the
Lord......
1. Free from day to day distractions
2. Humbling experience offered to God
3. Opportunity for sharing life together
4. Church becomes our family
5. Church becomes a home in a greater way
6. Builds new fellowship
7. Becomes an "Upper Room" experience
as at the Last Supper.
8. Exceptions may be arranged if needed.
What About Mass And Reconciliation?
Mass is celebrated during the weekend in church. The
sacrament of Reconciliation will be offered
Saturday evening for those wishing to
participate.
What Should I Wear?
Casual and comfortable clothes are appropriate
for the weekend.
What does the weekend cost?
It is totally free! Donations help us to be self-
sustaining and are greatly appreciated - but are not
required to attend. There will be an opportunity at
the conclusion of the weekend for a free-will
donation to help defray the cost of providing this
weekend.
How can I sign up to attend?
There are several ways:
You will be invited to become involved through
announcements during Mass, in the weekend
bulletin, and perhaps by personal invitation from
someone you know at St. Michael's Parish. Just pick up a
registration form (available at the back of church or
the Parish Office), complete it and then:
1. Drop the form off in the Parish Office
2. Mail the form to Parish Office - -
address is on the registration form
3. Drop form in Collection Basket in an envelope
4. Or, scan the QR code on the banner in the back of church,
through this website or through St. Michael's Parish website.
